The Boyfriend Watch

Just a quick post on a current trend that definitely worth a show, and that is The Boyfriend Watch. You know how the story goes....you're in dating the hottie in highschool back in the days when Facebook wasn't around to make your relationship "official." The only thing that he could do to prove to you and the rest of the world that he loves you, was to give you his watch to wear. The boyfriend watch was what made it all official. It was like shouting to the world "look! We're dating!" And that's how the boyfriend watch came into existence. But nowadays, you don't need a man or should I say boyfriend to get your hands on one of these fashionable watches. You just need to go to any trendy store and you will find an array of beautiful, masculine watches for woman or feminine watches for men...that will compliment any outfit of choice! Even girls who have sweethearts in their lives still go out and buy their own boyfriend watch. Gone are the days when you needed to be in love to qualify!

Blazer, Boyfriend watch and clutch. Come onnnn. It's so pretty <3

So I have bought into this trend. My first boyfriend watch was a white link watch. I really wanted the Guess white link watch or a white link Toy Watch...but alas I could not afford that. So I tried to find the best generic equivalent, which happened to be a Tempo watch from American Swiss. That watch did me well, and I still wear it now and again, but I have found that the Boyfriend watch trend has shifted towards metallics now (think golds, bronzes, rose-golds are so in right now!) and more vintage-type leather straps.

Then my boyfriend spoilt me by buying me a brown leather strap Hallmark watch. Such a stunning watch. I had been eyeing it out for a while since I seen one of my friends wearing it. I asked her about the watch, and she said it was actually a man's watch. I couldn't believe it. Its so beautiful, and yes it is boyfriend looking...but I thought it was definitely a masculine ladies watch instead of the other way around. I was wrong...it was a man's watch. I never thought I could really pull off wearing a man's watch, I had always like the idea of wearing one, but could I really pull it off? After seeing it on my friend and how good it looked, I knew I had to try it out. I found out the price, which was much lower than I expected (about R500) and was going to buy it for myself. And then got a surprised by my boyfriend when he came home with the watch for me after a working trip to Durban. So now not only do I have my dream boyfriend watch, it has so much sentimental value to. Lets just say, I am really happy with it.
